2012 - A Year in Review - Denver Wedding Photographer, Colorado

What an amazing and insightful year 2012 was! Here are a few images from the year - so many photos taken and so many beautiful weddings, brides, grooms and families that we were lucky to meet this year!  It was hard to choose these images just in the fact that there are so many wonderful parts to a wedding - the families and friends who gather to celebrate, sometimes from thousands of miles away - the beloveds that we give our hearts, our minds and our commitments to, and let's not forget the dancing and the food and the love!   Weddings are truly amazing!

I haven't gotten to blog about half of my weddings from this year - stay tuned, enjoy and there is more to come!

Happy 2013!

Wedding Albums - Coming Full Circle - Denver, Colorado

Whew!  I can't believe it - but I am done for the year!  All my wonderful clients have come through before deadlines and all wedding albums have been ordered, photo shoots delivered and every wedding backed up! I recently delivered this gorgeous wedding album and it was fun to see the pure joy on my client's face when she looked through it, reliving and relishing those moments from her wedding day.  It really is an honor to become a witness and official "recordkeeper" of these amazing days in people's lives.  The experience of coming full circle - from planning months in advance, to photographing the wedding day, editing and post-production and then starting a whole entirely different creative experience to delivery of a keepsake that will be loved for generations to come is nothing short of amazing.

After she went home and showed her husband their wedding album, I received a text saying "Thank you for meeting today!  I LOVE our wedding book!  You're so incredibly talented...thank you so much for sharing your magic with us".  I'm the lucky one.

Enjoy!

Featured on Couture Colorado Baby - A Colorado Style Blog

One of our favorite wedding blogs, Couture Colorado, has expanded their blogging goodness!  We are thrilled to have our work featured on Couture Colorado Baby!  One of my all-time favorite coordinators, Ashley Summers, entrusted me with photographing her newborn baby girl, Storey.  To view the photos, click on this link A Styled Shoot for Storey.  My favorite part of the shoot was, of course, Storey!  She was a pro and slept through most of the shoot.  The frame was actually a mirror that I found at a thrift store for $12.  I may have 7 years of bad luck by breaking the mirror, but I made some beautiful memories for Ashley, Phil and Storey!  Enjoy!

A Recent Favorite - Leslee and Juan at Crooked Willow Farms - Larkspur, Colorado

Here is a recent image from a wedding at one of my favorite venues, Crooked Willow Farms.  We stole a few moments away from the reception while guests were enjoying their meal to capture some really beautiful shots at sunset.  Crooked Willow Farms is a perfect venue for a wedding - offering that rustic charm, lots of space and privacy and tons of different locations for photos! Enjoy!

A Recent Favorite - Lauren and Bret's Castle Pines Country Club Wedding - Castle Rock, Colorado

It doesn't look 25 degrees in this photo, does it?  On October 6th we had a deep freeze!  I can't remember the last time I photographed in freezing rain!  Anyway, Lauren and Bret were complete and total troopers!!!  The lighting was amazing and they braved the cold to do photos of their "first look" outside.  I am forever grateful - this image (one of many) was simply divine!

A Recent Favorite - Chris and Erin's Wedding, Golden, Colorado

I sure need to catch up on my blogging!  Here is a recent favorite from Chris and Erin's wedding in Golden.  I loved this cute, red barn!

Destination Wedding - Crystal Springs Golf Resort, New Jersey

One of the most fun things to do is to get on a plane with all your gear, fly to another state and shoot with another photographer at venue you've never been to before.  I'm telling you - THAT IS FUN!  Here is an image that I got while shooting with Kevin at Crystal Springs Golf Resort in New Jersey.

Colorado Springs Wedding - Cheyenne Mountain Country Club and St. Paul Catholic Church

Meet Sarah and Jimmer.  There is so much to like about these two!  We originally met while I was photographing another wedding and I have to say, we clicked right away (pun intended)....!!!  I so enjoyed photographing their wedding - there were a lot of fun and hilarious moments (see some of Sarah's expressions) and very tender and emotional moments (see Jimmer as Sarah walked down the aisle).   A little rain didn't dampen the celebration and the Father-Daughter dance was one-of-a-kind. Enjoy!

Downtown Denver Engagement Session - Denver, Colorado

Meet Sarah and Brendan!  We got right down to some fun starting at Commons Park and continuing on walking and exploring different parts of the Platte River and surrounding areas.  I loved Sarah's bright dress and knew we should head over by Elitches to check out the murals under Speer Boulevard.  I was quite happy and they were quite playful!!  Both Sarah and Brendan were into having fun and being spontaneous and, honestly - that's when the best photos happen - unplanned and relaxed!

Enjoy!

Grace St. Stephens Church and Broadmoor's Cheyenne Lodge Wedding - Colorado Springs, Colorado

Meet Patterson and Patrick!  They had a stunning wedding at Grace St. Stephens Church and a beautiful reception at Broadmoor's Cheyenne Lodge.  In addition to Patterson and Patrick being so kind, fun and gracious, there were so many things I loved about this wedding!  Their first look was so emotional - I don't even think they were prepared for the tears as no one (not even us) had anything handy to dry the tears that flowed!   Patrick and his niece Izzy had the cutest matching dimples!!  And, I loved how close Patterson was to all of her girlfriends!  The handkerchief had each of her girlfriend's initials and wedding date embroidered on it - accompanying each new bride/friend down the aisle on each of their own wedding days!

One Sweet Little Moment - Denver Wedding Photographer

I recently saw a post in one of the photography forums asking the question "what is the number one draw for inspiration in your work?".  I had to sit there and think and, to be honest, got a little irritated with myself because I could think of a few things, but not just one.  I moved on to other posts on Facebook and promptly forgot about this one.

While editing recently, I came across this really special moment.  And then I knew.  I knew what my #1 inspiration in my own work was:  connection.  I love being connected to my clients, their families and friends.  I love witnessing their connections with each other.  I love how they trust me with these tender moments and let me into their lives to witness and record one of the most sacred things between a couple:  the forming of a new family.  They let me see them at some of their more vulnerable moments - crying with happiness (and sadness), laughing, dancing, drinking, elation and, at times, frustration.  In these moments, memories are made and I'm ever so grateful to be witnessing and recording them!

Wedding Tip #1 - Knowing What Time the Sun Goes Down on Your Wedding Day - Denver Wedding Photographer

I thought it would be a good idea to offer some helpful wedding photography tips to planning brides and grooms.  So, here we go!

I'm a huge fan of variety - in lighting and locations!  The more variety in both, the better!  So, when helping a bride plan her timeline for the day, I research what time sunset will be and let her know.  I suggest taking the bride and groom out of the reception to do some fun and relaxed portraits during sunset or the magic hour - which is right after sunset but before it gets completely dark.

Enjoy this beautiful sunset from a wedding in Steamboat Springs!

A Downtown Denver Engagement Session - Byron White United States Courthouse, Denver, Colorado

Meet Tiffany and Kevin.  We had a super fun engagement session all over Lodo.  We started at the Byron White Courthouse on Stout Street - had a quick cocktail at Harry's Bar in the Magnolia Hotel and then headed to Larimer Square and ended up at the Corner Office Famous yellow wall.  You know you are having fun when at the end of the session, your couple does the Worm!  Yeah!

A Breckenridge Wedding - Breckenridge, Colorado

Meet Pamela and Steve - the had a wonderful wedding at Mountain Thunder Lodge in Breckenridge.  Pamela's father made the wedding arch and since Steve is a doctor, the Groom's cake was rather funny - anyone remember the board game "Operation"?  During the reception, a fox hung out and watched the festivities.

An Engagement Session in New York City - New York

That is not a typo!!  I recently returned from helping a friend photograph a wedding in New Jersey at the very swanky Crystal Springs Resort.  Kevin gave me a warm New York welcome by scheduling an engagement session in the City before the weekend so we could get our creativity a kick start!  We had a blast!  We started at the High Line Park, a brand new park that was an existing freight line elevated above the street.  The transformation is unreal!  The park is modern and just a breath of fresh air!  If you are ever in NYC, I highly recommend a stroll (and some gelato!) through the High Line.

An Evergreen Engagement Session - Evergreen, Colorado

First, I am reading "Eat, Pray, Love" again.  I love that book!  It has nothing to do with being engaged, but it does have everything to do with writing the most luscious sentences that flow every so lovingly together, Elizabeth Gilbert has a way with words!  I shall make a meager attempt now....if nothing else, this shall make us both laugh! Meet Lauren, an actress and Bret - her soulmate.   How do I know?  Well, after watching people and studying them and waiting for moments to happen- seeing expressions on faces, loving gestures, a smile with just the eyes - and, let us not forget a "deep, hot stare" - I think I know.   The looks they gave each other could melt steel.

On to the photos - it's clear I must take an official writing class of some sort - or keep reading "Eat, Pray, Love"

Enjoy!

A Golden Engagement Session - Golden, Colorado

Meet Erin and Chris!  I met Erin when I did my Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica.  They are the perfect Colorado couple - they love the outdoors!  Erin has a thing for heart rocks and, of course, we had to look for one during the session - low and behold, Chris found one and he gave Erin his "heart"...I love these two!

Can't wait for your wedding!

Enjoy!

A Wedding at Cheyenne Mountain Resort - Colorado Springs, Colorado

Meet Amy and David!  They recently had their wedding at the lovely Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.  They both had such a great sense of humor and had us laughing all day long!

Yoga Meets Nascar - Denver Engagement Session

Things that compliment each other - like Yin and Yang, Sun and Moon, Peanut Butter and Chocolate and Yoga and Nascar - wait a minute?  Whaaat?

Meet Colleen and Joe - one of the loveliest couples!  Colleen and I hit it off right away - we talked about yoga and how it has impacted our lives - in a way, we were soul sisters.  Joe loved his truck and wanted his pride and joy somehow incorporated into the engagement session - the photo you see is how it evolved - Joe with his truck and Colleen with her yoga melding perfectly together in this setting of scenic Colorado.

Enjoy!
