Will You Marry Me? Two Unique Surprise Proposals - Denver Wedding Photographer

First, I can't tell you how fun photographing a surprise proposal is!  Why?  Well, because everything is a surprise!  As a photographer, all of your senses and training come into play AT ONCE!  You senses are peaked - you notice everything because you are on a covert mission to be sly and go unnoticed.  Your skills must be honed and ready in a millisecond to record life changing moments in...A MOMENT!  This all sounds very dramatic and IT IS!   Photographing a surprise proposal is exhilarating!! Second, it's very exciting that capturing these surprise proposals have become so popular!  What a fantastic gift to give your soon-to-be wife (or husband)!

Our first location was at the world famous Red Rocks Ampitheatre, where many flock to see the majestic rock formations that make this Ampitheatre a most memorable place to visit.  A couple of facts about Red Rocks (I had NO idea!) that I found really cool:   Red Rocks is geologically formed, so there is no other place like it in the world...and the park has been open since 1941!  How cool is that?

Our second location was at the world renowned Broadmoor Hotel.  A couple of fun facts about the Broadmoor is that this resort has been around since 1918!  The Broadmoor has also been ranked by Forbes as 5 star hotel for 52 straight years.  That is a pretty incredible feat and it's no wonder - the hotel has beautiful artwork and a classic old world feel.  Once you step foot on the grounds, you are well taken care of.

On to these fun images!  I've mixed both proposals together for spontaneity!

Congratulations to JT and Anna and also to Ian and Kristina!!  I wish you many happy lifetimes together!

(and, props to Anna who hiked up and down Red Rocks in the snow and ice for JT....and props to Kristina who braved 25 degrees to go on a romantic walk with Ian around the Broadmoor!)

Enjoy!!!

A Clear Creek History Park Wedding - Golden, Colorado

First, a poem!  I am always collecting words that inspire me and also make my heart feel full.  I love this one:

“In this world there is always one person waiting for another, be it in the middle of a desert or in the middle of a big city.

And when those people pass each other and their eyes meet, past and future lose all importance, and the only thing that exists is that moment and the incredible certainty that everything under the sun

was written by the same Hand, the Hand that awakens Love, and that makes a twin soul for everyone who works, rests and seeks treasure under the sun.

Without this our human dreams would make no sense.”

I first met Erin in Costa Rica!  She was my roommate when I went to Costa Rica to get my yoga certification.  We became quick pals and learned that we both collected heart rocks and had small collections from around the globe.  She talked a lot about her boyfriend, Chris and she was so excited because he was coming out to Costa Rica to meet up with her after the 30 day training ended.  We shared a few hilarious times together - briefly:  our other roommate who talked, laughed and yelled in her sleep (LOVE YOU, Francine!), being awoken at 2am by a huge hissing cockroach that somehow got inside her mosquito net, while using the bathroom, having a giant lizard fall from the ceiling almost on top of her head, and while walking back to our bungalow after dinner in the jungle (in pitch black darkness with only our headlamps) screaming at the top of our lungs when the property's dogs came trampling through the forest (and, on another walk home, screaming again when a horse appeared).  I could go on and on!  It was one of the best trips of my life and I was so fortunate to share it with Erin!

During the yoga training, Erin showed me a photo of Chris.  It was on her phone, so it was kinda small, but I could see he was a tall white guy with brown hair.  Fast forward to the day after yoga graduation.  We were leaving our jungle sanctuary to go into the nearest town to stay in a hostel for a few days and we were craving some major necessities:  namely chocolate, wine, sushi, french fries and beer (not necessarily in that order).  Erin was staying with us and was looking forward to having Chris meet us in town - a mere 5 hour bus ride from San Jose.  Unfortunately, Chris' flight was cancelled, which meant he also missed his connection.  Erin was frantically trying to reach him and get information but because he was trying to find other ways to get to Costa Rica, the communication between them was hit or miss.  Erin was so sad - she just wanted to see Chris so badly!  The day after he was set to arrive, she was hoping that he would magically show up.  It had been 24 hours since Chris was to have arrived in Costa Rica.  We spent the day at the beach, hoping that she would hear something soon!  Francine and I decided to go back to the hotel and on the way, passed a nearby bus stop.  There was this tall guy with brown hair kind of wandering aimlessly and I was thinking "I think that's Erin's boyfriend"...So, I said to Francine kind of loudly "Hey, doesn't that guy look like Erin's boyfriend?" and he heard me and ran over and said "Yes, I'm Erin's boyfriend - I haven't had any sleep yet and I went to the hostel and she isn't there - do you know where she is?".  I couldn't believe our luck!  I was so happy and especially so excited to see their reunion!  So, we led Chris to Erin on the beach and Erin ran up to him and jumped on him!

Okay, fast forward another 2 days and we saw Chris and Erin a few times, but they were doing their own thing.  And then...on the day that I left, I saw Erin and she said that Chris proposed!!

And here we are:

A Donovan Pavilion Wedding - Vail, Colorado

Finally I am back to blogging after a very busy summer and fall! You know how there are weddings where there isn't a dry eye in the house?  Well, this is NOT one of them.  Let me elaborate - with this wedding - THERE WAS NEVER A DULL MOMENT!

Meet Kyle and Erica.  I knew upon meeting Kyle and Erica that I would be laughing all day long with them and wondering if I should take anything Kyle said seriously.  He was *that* funny!  And, when they revealed that when they would be pronounced husband and wife, they were going to be doing Irish Car Bomb shots - I knew that I had to photograph this wedding!  I honestly loved the light-hearted hilariousness that ensued all day!

Enjoy!

A Wash Park Engagement Session - Denver Photographer

Meet Jennie and Kent!  Kent surprised Jennie one night during one of their nightly dog walks at Wash Park.  He went to the park earlier in the day with chalk and wrote out their initials and a big heart on a path somewhat secluded from the main road.  Jennie was completely surprised to see their initials on the path when they came across it and was thrilled when Kent then went down on bended knee!  How romantic!

Enjoy!  Can't wait until your wedding in September!

A Denver Botanic Garden Wedding - Denver Wedding Photographer

I don't know about you, but when I go shopping for a card, I have to read ALL the cards to make sure the one I pick transmits the exact feeling that I am feeling for the receiver of the card.  I go thru all the cards and if I don't find one that is PERFECT, I keep searching even if it means leaving the store empty handed.  I'm feeling the same thing about my blog posts lately.  I can tell you about how amazing each wedding day was, how much fun we had, how the day was magical.  But, in all honesty, every wedding has a bit of fairy dust sprinkled on it.  What I would like to convey more in my writings is how IMPORTANT and AMAZING love is.....The Feeling of IT - What it communicates to you and me and the world around us.  Love is INSPIRING.  So, I'll probably be quoting more love poems and quotes than actually writing about what happened at the wedding (and how awesome my clients are - everyone knows THAT already!!)

"There are four questions of value in life....What is sacred?  Of what is the spirit made?  What is worth living for?  What is worth dying for?  The answer to each is the SAME.  Only LOVE."  - Johnny Depp

A Recent Favorite - Leslee and Juan at Crooked Willow Farms - Larkspur, Colorado

Here is a recent image from a wedding at one of my favorite venues, Crooked Willow Farms.  We stole a few moments away from the reception while guests were enjoying their meal to capture some really beautiful shots at sunset.  Crooked Willow Farms is a perfect venue for a wedding - offering that rustic charm, lots of space and privacy and tons of different locations for photos! Enjoy!

A Recent Favorite - Lauren and Bret's Castle Pines Country Club Wedding - Castle Rock, Colorado

It doesn't look 25 degrees in this photo, does it?  On October 6th we had a deep freeze!  I can't remember the last time I photographed in freezing rain!  Anyway, Lauren and Bret were complete and total troopers!!!  The lighting was amazing and they braved the cold to do photos of their "first look" outside.  I am forever grateful - this image (one of many) was simply divine!

Enjoy!

A Recent Favorite - Chris and Erin's Wedding, Golden, Colorado

I sure need to catch up on my blogging!  Here is a recent favorite from Chris and Erin's wedding in Golden.  I loved this cute, red barn!

Downtown Denver Engagement Session - Denver, Colorado

Meet Sarah and Brendan!  We got right down to some fun starting at Commons Park and continuing on walking and exploring different parts of the Platte River and surrounding areas.  I loved Sarah's bright dress and knew we should head over by Elitches to check out the murals under Speer Boulevard.  I was quite happy and they were quite playful!!  Both Sarah and Brendan were into having fun and being spontaneous and, honestly - that's when the best photos happen - unplanned and relaxed!

Wedding Tip #1 - Knowing What Time the Sun Goes Down on Your Wedding Day - Denver Wedding Photographer

I thought it would be a good idea to offer some helpful wedding photography tips to planning brides and grooms.  So, here we go!

I'm a huge fan of variety - in lighting and locations!  The more variety in both, the better!  So, when helping a bride plan her timeline for the day, I research what time sunset will be and let her know.  I suggest taking the bride and groom out of the reception to do some fun and relaxed portraits during sunset or the magic hour - which is right after sunset but before it gets completely dark.

Enjoy this beautiful sunset from a wedding in Steamboat Springs!

A Golden Engagement Session - Golden, Colorado

Meet Erin and Chris!  I met Erin when I did my Yoga Teacher Training in Costa Rica.  They are the perfect Colorado couple - they love the outdoors!  Erin has a thing for heart rocks and, of course, we had to look for one during the session - low and behold, Chris found one and he gave Erin his "heart"...I love these two!

Can't wait for your wedding!

Enjoy!

A Wedding at Cheyenne Mountain Resort - Colorado Springs, Colorado

Meet Amy and David!  They recently had their wedding at the lovely Cheyenne Mountain Resort in Colorado Springs.  They both had such a great sense of humor and had us laughing all day long!

Yoga Meets Nascar - Denver Engagement Session

Things that compliment each other - like Yin and Yang, Sun and Moon, Peanut Butter and Chocolate and Yoga and Nascar - wait a minute?  Whaaat?

Meet Colleen and Joe - one of the loveliest couples!  Colleen and I hit it off right away - we talked about yoga and how it has impacted our lives - in a way, we were soul sisters.  Joe loved his truck and wanted his pride and joy somehow incorporated into the engagement session - the photo you see is how it evolved - Joe with his truck and Colleen with her yoga melding perfectly together in this setting of scenic Colorado.

Enjoy!

University of Colorado, Boulder - Boulder Engagement Session

Meet Leslee and Juan - alumni of University of Colorado, Boulder.  We had fun walking around the campus and we laughed pretty hard at some of the stories from their school days.

Enjoy!

A Crooked Willow Farms Wedding - Larkspur, Colorado

A City Wedding at the Denver Athletic Club, Denver - Colorado

Meet Anne and Jake - the perfect urban couple!  I mean it when I say they really, REALLY compliment each other!  I was excited to shoot at the Denver Athletic Club, especially when I saw the view from their 5th floor parking garage!

Anne's family presented a quilt to the newlyweds, a family tradition (and quite a surprise!).  Each square was made by a family member.

One question:  Have you ever seen a groom melt?  I certainly did at this wedding - Anne lovingly sang Ingrid Michaelson's "The Way I Am" to Jake and he literally melted.  It was awesome!

Enjoy!

A Wedding at the Four Seasons Vail - Vail, Colorado

Meet Brooke and Patrick!  They had an intimate wedding at the Four Seasons in Vail.
