Hawai’i – Self Portrait03.19.12
It was my last day in paradise – I went on a nice hike to a waterfall, but the lighting conditions were not good for photos. I sat quietly contemplating my trip – the laughter and tears, the beautiful sights and hikes, sunrises, sunsets – amazing people. Then, I saw these bright colored leaves and noticed the water around the small pool was very calm. What’s a photographer to do? I started to photograph this beautiful leaf sitting on a rock – but I could not get rid of my reflection! I tried different angles and camera settings, but I could still see myself reflecting in the water. So, I thought – why fight it? I started to play and this is one of my favorites out of the bunch – looking to the sky to get my profile.

Hiking on O’ahu03.12.12
I was so thankful for finding 2 absolutely fantastic websites before I went on my trip to O’ahu! I can’t say enough about these 2 sites – they were packed with information and I did about 10 hikes while I was on my 17 day trip. The websites are: www.unrealhawaii.com and www.alohafrom808.com.
From the looks of this hike, I thought it would be pretty easy – NOT! It was a bit challenging. I went through different terrain, which was really cool – and the views were magnificent! I highly recommend this hike!

I love photographing turtles underwater! They are simply beautiful! In fact, I love to photograph JUST ABOUT ANYTHING underwater!
To date, I’ve photographed (and swam with) a manta ray, spotted wild dolphins, reef sharks and hawaiian sea turtles. It’s one of my dreams to swim with a whale or whale shark! How cool would that be? But, for now, here we have some gorgeous turtles to look at:

The Most Sacred Place in Hawai’i03.05.12
Here are some photos that are way overdue from my trip back home to O’ahu in November!
Welcome to the most sacred place in Hawaii. This is Kukaniloko, known as the royal birthing stones. This site was one of two sites set aside for the birth of royalty in Hawai’i. There are 36 stones stones here, 18 on the left and 18 on the right. The Ali’i (royalty) wanted their children born here for its spiritual power and only the Ali’i were allowed to set foot upon this ground. The Hawaiians believed that the gods recognized a child born here.
I have to say when I went here, it was so peaceful. You can *feel* this place. The area is surrounded by tall eucalyptus trees and a sugar cane field. It’s only about 5 minutes off a main highway and it’s not really marked. It’s so sacred that many people leave leis and other offerings. When I was there, someone had left a wedding bouquet and lei – so amazing!
